Talk Mental Health

read

I hate talking, especially when it comes to my autism. However, this time I encourage you to talk mental health, whoever you are it’s clear that talking helps. If you’ve read my book you’ll know it’s been hard for me. When I first came out of a mental health hospital my family said, ‘don’t publish anything on social media’.

I use this blog as a kind of online talk therapy so it’s kind of impossible. I encourage you to speak to someone about your mental health, maybe a therapist, maybe a family member, maybe the online world.

Signs Of Psychosis

I’m going to start being more open about my mental health journey, in particular my psychotic episode. Until now, I’ve only ever written about my psychosis in my book but I feel it’s the right time to talk. Back during the covid pandemic, I started having hallucinations, hearing things, it’s all detailed in my book (click here). At the time, I was working which made things really difficult for me and my employer. Talking about mental health in the workplace is a must, whether it’s past experience or happening now. Being clear with my employer, made things easier for me and them as they knew exactly how fit I was to work.

My Psychosis Recovery

One thing I find is how hard it is nowadays to just talk to someone about your mental health. By someone, I mean a doctor or psychiatrist who can help provide you with mental health strategies. After coming out of hospital, I found I was really confused, I was signed up to the Early Intervention In Psychosis program. I had a mental health CPA who I worked with on a weekly basis which was amazing. We did a course exploring what triggered my psychosis which helped massively. I’m also extremely grateful for Mind, the charity have been provided me with a support system and social groups I can attend.

I’m amazed to say that I’m now off my anti-psychotic medication and I’m as stable. I’m feeling well in my self and I attend Mind groups to help with my wellbeing. I’ve also started running a bit more and gardening! If you feel like you need to talk to a professional about anxiety, talk about your depression or your psychotic symptoms, please don’t be afraid to speak out.
