I’m In A Pantomime

If you don’t know me, I’m quite shy, you wouldn’t have thought I’d be in a pantomime. See, I have Asperger’s Syndrome but I’m always pushing myself to do new things, meet new people and break out of my comfort zone. Now you may be thinking what on earth does this post have to do with running, well it has actually got a lot to do with running. Running isn’t just about running on the road, burning calories and sweating so much you could fill 10 buckets, running is mental, it’s the ability to say “I’m going to run 10 miles and not stop one bit”. Running is you shaping your mind. Running is you breaking out of your comfort zone and pushing yourself to new limits.

Everything Is A Challenge

When I wake up every morning, everything is a challenge. Talking to people I don’t know, driving to a new place or as I’ve said joining a new drama group. I only joined my drama group back in September, I didn’t know anyone their, still to this day I’ve only had a few conversations with people their as I struggle to communicate and find conversation.

Running is mental, it’s the ability to say “I’m going to run 10 miles and not stop one bit”.

But the thing is, I’m doing it, I’m going to be in a pantomime this Christmas. Last night, I was dancing to Elton John’s Saturday Nights Alright, I don’t dance, I hate dancing, but I did it because I’m pushing new boundaries. I even broke sweat dancing about to the song. You should see me at Disco’s I’m always the one sat down watching everyone else have a good time dancing whilst I’m thinking, “what on earth is happening here?”, but now I’m the one up dancing.

It Was Almost 10 Years Ago

The last time I did drama was 10 years ago, I played the Wizard in the Wizard Of Oz and I was Henry Miller in Calamity Jane. These were big parts and I coped with them pretty well. 10 years later, I’m getting a bit panicky about playing these parts but I know will be okay. It’s remembering simple things like when to come on and when to come off that’s the tricky bit. There’s no point in being fearful though, I’ve come this far I’m not going to give in to fear now. I’ll update you with how the performances went in a new blog in December.
